Impreza (GC8/GF8) applied-model reference, MY93–MY00

The Impreza didn't exist before November 1992 (it replaced the Leone), so MY93 is the earliest possible coverage — there is no 1989 Impreza. Enter any code below (e.g. GC8B47D) into the decoder to look it up directly.

Legacy 1st generation (BC/BF) applied-model reference, 1989–1993

Launched at Japanese dealers 1 February 1989. This table is sourced more thinly than the Impreza one above — several codes cover more than one trim/output level (see Data & Limitations).

What this is

Scooby Register decodes standard 17-digit Subaru VINs (manufacturer, model line, body, engine, approximate model year, plant and transmission) and identifies Japanese-market chassis numbers by their generation prefix. Where a genuine, published production figure exists for a model or a limited edition, it's shown alongside the decode with its source.

Exact "car number 4,532 of 12,000" style answers for every individual VIN require a large real-world dataset of chassis numbers to count against — that kind of dataset (built up over years from sources such as auction records or long-running user submissions) isn't part of this build. Where a figure isn't publicly known, this tool says so rather than guessing.

Where the colour-by-variant matrix comes from

The GC8/GF8 WRX Type RA/STi production-by-colour matrix (8,282 units, MY95-MY99) is genuine exact production data reproduced from a third-party production-data archive, which states it compiled that specific matrix from a dedicated JDM Impreza owners' club database. It is the one table in this build that answers "how many made" with the same precision the original inspiration for this project offered — everything else here is either a generation-level figure or a named limited-edition total.

Improving accuracy over time

The reference tables (chassis codes, trim codes, production figures) live in assets/js/data.js and are designed to be extended as better sourced information becomes available.
